St Andrew's Junior School Hatfield Peverel

Modern Foreign Languages

At St. Andrew’s all children have the opportunity to participate in a sequence of carefully planned lessons, ensuring progressive coverage of the skills required by the National Curriculum. Lessons provide an introduction to French-speaking cultures and communities. MFL at St Andrew’s aims to foster children’s curiosity and help deepen their understanding of the world. A linear curriculum has been chosen to allow opportunity for children to shine and build on a variety of skills. In Years 3 and 4, children acquire basic skills and understanding of French with a strong emphasis placed on developing their Speaking and Listening skills. These will be embedded and further developed in Years 5 and 6, alongside Reading and Writing, gradually progressing onto more complex language concepts and greater learner autonomy.
