Year 4 Trip to Maldon
Well, the weather was NOT kind to us on our trip to Maldon on Thursday 11th June - it could not have been wetter! We first headed to the mosque, had a tour of the building and took part in a question and answer session. This was a follow-up to work in our RE lessons about why Muhammad is considered the ‘seal of the prophets’ and the children came up with some thoughtful questions. The mosque were very welcoming and the children, inquisitive, sensitive and respectful.
As part of our Anglo-Saxons topic, we visited the amazing embroidery in the Heritage Centre and learned more about the Battle of Maldon. We also learnt about the importance of oral history and considered why it is sometimes unreliable. A quick visit in the rain to see the statue of the Saxon Lord Byrhtnoth at the end of Promenade Park was a highlight too.
We were very grateful that the Council allowed Fir to use their hall for lunch and that the bus driver allowed Cherry to shelter there while they ate theirs. A special mention goes to our wonderful bus driver, Trevor, who ferried us about a fair bit, saving us some walking in the rain! Despite getting very wet and tired, the children had a wonderful time and did St Andrew’s proud!
