Year 5 Science
Year 5's science topic this half term was Life Cycles and as part of this we were very lucky to witness the life cycle of a caterpillar and part of the life cycle of a chicken!
The caterpillars arrived and we watched them grow and grow over 3 weeks before they transformed into a chrysalis. Two more weeks of watching and they emerged as beautiful butterflies! The children loved releasing them into our forest school area.
Then it got even more exciting as eggs were delivered to us by Our Garden Hens. The children were so excited when the eggs started to hatch and we all became glued to the hatch-cam! We were lucky to welcome eight chicks and we loved watching them grow. We named them Chick-Chick, Oscar, Pancake, Dinky, Shadow, Jeffrey, Oreo and Brownie.
‘Our Garden Hens’ actually breed many varieties of poultry, geese and duck so our chicks will now be sold on for someone to keep as pets!
Huge thank you to the JSA for funded this for the children again because we wouldn’t be able to do this without your fundraising.
